Trying to start a Quilt-Along With A Broken Thumb--Just My Luck!

Well. I guess there will be no more hitch-hiking for me!  Ha ha!  My husband by accident, stepped on my hand and broke my thumb.  I find out tomorrow if I have to have surgery.  Nuts!  With this week being our family's back to school week, I was planning on starting a quilt along with some awesome Connecting Threads batik fabrics.  Maybe as "punishment" (joking), my husband will have to do the rotary cutting.  He keeps pestering me about teaching him how to use my electronic sewing machine.  Perhaps the broken thumb will slow me down enough to teach him a trick or two.

Don't you just love the vibrant colors of the batiks?  The fabric is the Light & Bright Batik Fat Quarter Sampler (24 pieces), and 3 1/2 yards white batik for the applique border and outer border.  To purchase the exact fabrics I am using, follow this link: http://www.connectingthreads.com/Kits/Light__Bright_Batik_Fat_Quarter_Sampler__D5182.HTML   The  1 yard red batik fabric is for the binding.  I am naming the quilt pattern Flying to Paradise.  Here is the pattern's finished diagram:

If you would like to purchase a completed draft of this pattern without the applique shapes, it is available on Craftsy for download on this link: http://www.craftsy.com/pattern/quilting/home-decor/flying-to-paradise-quilt-along-draft/65553 .  So...go get your fabrics ready, as we get this quilt along party started.  A special thanks goes out to Connecting Threads for being my fabric sponsor for this quilt.  And...if you have any tips for quilting with a broken thumb--send them my way.  Thanks!

Trying...hard to grab my rotary cutter.  My son told me I have a quilting problem as I can't stay away from sewing for even one week.  It's so much fun when your kids can tease and laugh with you!
